GÖBEKLİTEPE GÖBEKLİTEPE 18 Having found reverberations around the world, particu- larly in Germany, Göbeklitepe Neolithic Area managed to grab the rightful attention it deserved in Turkey and around the world. According to the common archeological approach, the most important factors in mankind’s transition from hunter-gatherer lifestyle to settled life were the fear of hunger and the instinct of protection. However, Gö- beklitepe shatters this approach. Considering the period it was built, religious beliefs could also be a factor in the transition into settled life.
